Job description

SEN Primary School Teaching Assistant – Oldham

We are seeking a caring, patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school setting in Oldham. This role involves supporting children with a range of special educational needs within a structured, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

You will work closely with teaching staff to help pupils access learning, develop communication and social skills, and build confidence through consistent, tailored support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of differentiated, child-centred lessons aligned with individual SEN needs

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with needs such as ASD, communication difficulties, sensory needs or global developmental delay

  • Build positive, trusting relationships to promote engagement, emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Assist with EHCP targets, individual learning plans and progress monitoring

  • Encourage independence, communication and social interaction within classroom routines

  • Support with personal care and sensory strategies where required

  • Maintain accurate observations, records and safeguarding documentation

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children, ideally within SEN, primary or specialist education

  • A calm, empathetic and adaptable approach

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
