Bolton

Full-Time | Immediate & September Start Available


Are you an experienced Pastoral Support Worker or looking to build your career within SEMH schools? Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate individual to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across Secondary specialist provisions in the Bolton area.

The students you will support may present with anxiety, trauma, attachment disorders, ADHD, behavioural difficulties, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, and social communication challenges. These young people require consistent, empathetic support to help them re-engage with education and develop positive coping strategies.


About the Role

This full-time Pastoral Support Worker role is focused on promoting student wellbeing, improving behaviour, and supporting engagement both inside and outside of the classroom.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students with SEMH needs
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable learners
  • Support students in managing challenging behaviour and emotional responses
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions focused on wellbeing, resilience, and social skills
  • Monitor student progress, attendance, and engagement
  • Act as a positive role model, helping students develop confidence and independence
  • Support transitions, break/lunch supervision, and crisis intervention when required

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about supporting young people with SEMH and SEN:

  • Previous experience working with SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviour (schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care settings)
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and safeguarding
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build rapport with students who may be disengaged or vulnerable
  • A proactive, adaptable attitude and team-player mindset
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
