Teaching Personnel are seeking a confident, proactive, and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH secondary provision in Failsworth. This specialist provision supports pupils aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school is committed to creating a structured, supportive, and nurturing environment where students can rebuild confidence, re-engage with their education, and achieve both personal and academic success.

Staff work collaboratively to maintain consistency, promote positive relationships, and provide the stability pupils need to thrive.

The Role

This is a highly active, hands-on position, suited to someone who is confident taking initiative and responding to challenges in real time. You will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them manage behaviour, stay engaged, and develop positive daily routines.

No two days are the same, so adaptability, resilience, and a calm, professional approach are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils
• Support behaviour management using positive and consistent strategies
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students
• Assist in delivering engaging lessons and activities
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and transitions throughout the day
• Take initiative in responding to situations confidently and independently
• Work closely with teachers and the wider support team
• Maintain a calm and professional approach in challenging situations

Essential Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people
• A confident, proactive, and adaptable approach
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Strong behaviour management skills
• Resilience, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
• A genuine passion for supporting young people

Desirable Skills

• Experience within SEMH settings, PRUs, or alternative provision
• Team Teach training (or willingness to complete)
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice
• Experience supporting challenging behaviour
