Are you from a sports coaching, behaviour support, or youth work background and ready to apply your skills in a school setting?

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support Assistant to join a supportive Pupil Referral Service (PRS) in Rochdale. This role is ideal for individuals who have experience managing behaviour, building relationships, and motivating young people—particularly those from sports, coaching, or mentoring backgrounds.

About the Setting

This PRU supports pupils aged 5–16 who have struggled in mainstream education. Many students present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, and complex personal experiences.

The school provides a structured, trauma-informed environment, helping pupils rebuild trust, improve behaviour, and re-engage with education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and SEN needs
  • Use engagement and behaviour management techniques to keep pupils focused
  • Build trusting relationships to improve attendance and participation
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and de-escalation
  • Encourage positive behaviour, teamwork, and respect
  • Adapt tasks to suit individual learning and behaviour needs
  • Maintain clear boundaries using a consistent, calm approach
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff
  • Support a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Record progress and contribute to support plans

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Background in sports coaching, behaviour mentoring, youth work, or similar
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Calm, patient, and resilient under pressure
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • Passion for supporting vulnerable pupils
  • Full-time availability and long-term commitment

Desirable:

  • Experience in a PRU, SEMH school, or alternative provision
  • Team Teach training (or willingness to complete)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice or behaviour strategies
