Teaching Personnel are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and proactive SEMH Behaviour Intervention Assistant to join a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Salford area. This is a full-time, long-term role with an immediate start, ideal for individuals passionate about supporting young people who need it most.


About the Role

As a Behaviour Intervention Assistant, you’ll work closely with students aged 11–16 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. These pupils often have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs such as Challenging behaviour, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition, Trauma related Behaviours and disengagement from education and require a patient, consistent, and empathetic support.


Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
  • Help implement behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students
  • Support engagement in lessons and promote positive learning behaviours
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Model calm, consistent behaviour and maintain clear boundaries
  • Record and report on student progress and behaviour

✅ What We’re Looking For

We’re keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (education, youth work, care, or similar)
  • Are resilient, patient, and emotionally intelligent
  • Can remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations positively
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Are committed to supporting vulnerable learners and making an impact
  • Have (or are willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS on the Update Service

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Team Teach or de-escalation training
  • Experience within a PRU, alternative provision, or SEN setting
  • Psychology or education-related background

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
