SEMH Teaching Assistant – Flexible Roles (Dorchester, Dorset) - Immediate Start

A rewarding opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to join a unique alternative education provision in Dorchester.

This setting specialises in supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs as well as additional learning difficulties.

Through a holistic approach that blends therapeutic, academic and practical learning, pupils are encouraged to grow in confidence, develop life skills and re-engage with education in meaningful ways.

 

The Role
We are seeking flexible and dedicated Teaching Assistants to work with students aged 11–16 on either a full-time or part-time basis, Monday to Friday.

The role involves providing tailored support in English and Maths alongside practical and vocational learning activities, such as outdoor education and creative workshops.

You will be working in small groups or one-to-one, helping each young person progress academically while supporting their social and emotional development.

 

Who We’re Looking For

  • Experience of working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs

  • Confident, adaptable and patient individuals who can thrive in both classroom and outdoor environments

  • Applicants with a full UK driving licence (essential due to limited public transport and travel between sites)

  • People who are passionate about helping pupils build confidence, resilience and essential life skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
