SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Portsmouth

Pay: £13.75 per hour (Paid weekly)

Contract Type: Term Time Only, Monday to Friday

Do you have an interest in supporting children with additional needs? Teaching Personnel is seeking dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to work in specialist Primary and Secondary schools across Hampshire. These settings support SEMH pupils aged 4-19 with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

  • Attachment disorders and trauma

  • Anxiety or school-based phobias

  • Communication and speech and language difficulties

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs

  • Assist teachers with delivering tailored learning programmes to students who have differentiated ability levels

  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment

  • Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and families

  • Uphold safeguarding protocols and policies at all times

  • Experience in education, care, youth work, SEN or SEMH settings

  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, supportive approach

  • Resilient nature with the ability to effectively manage challenging behaviours
  • Passion for making a positive impact on young people’s lives

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
