Teaching Assistant – SEMH School (Portsmouth Area)

Through Teaching Personnel

£13.75 per hour | Term Time Only

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist SEMH school in the Portsmouth area. This school caters to a mixed-age group of primary and secondary students, offering a unique and rewarding environment for the right candidate.

Key Details:

  • Location: Portsmouth area

  • Pay: £13.75 per hour

  • Contract: Term Time Only (Monday to Friday)

  • Start Date: ASAP or September

  • Hours: Full-time/Part time (approx. 8:30am – 3:30pm)

About the Role:

You will be working closely with pupils who have a range of SEMH needs, supporting their academic, emotional, and behavioural development. Each day will bring new challenges and opportunities to make a real impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students in and out of the classroom on a 1:1 or small group basis

  • Assisting the class teacher with planning and delivering engaging activities

  • Helping to manage classroom behaviour positively and effectively

  • Building strong relationships with students, staff, and families

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (desirable)

  • A calm, patient, and resilient nature

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A genuine passion for helping students thrive

  • A willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check (or already registered on the update service)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
