Learning Support Assistant - SEMH School (Term Time Only)

Location: Portsmouth

Hourly Rate: £13.75

Contract: Term Time Only

Teaching Personnel is currently seeking to appoint a committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to work within a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school based in Portsmouth. This is a term-time only position, offering a valuable opportunity to contribute to the education and development of pupils with additional social and emotional needs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students, both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups

  • Assist the class teacher in the delivery of personalised learning strategies

  • Support pupils in managing behaviour and developing emotional regulation

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment

Role Details:

  • Start Date: Immediate or September 2025

  • Working Hours: Full-time (Monday to Friday, term time only)

  • Hourly Pay Rate: £13.75

  • Location: Portsmouth

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEMH or SEN (Special Educational Needs) setting

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting pupils

  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check, or current registration with the update service

 

This role would suit an individual who is dedicated to supporting young people in overcoming barriers to learning and achieving their full potential. The successful applicant will play a key role in helping pupils to build confidence, develop positive relationships, and succeed in their education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
