Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit a SEMH Support Assistant to work full time in a Secondary school inclusion unit that caters for pupils ASD, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH). The post is to start after the Christmas break and you will be required to work during term time until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming a permanent member of staff pending a review in July.
This role would be ideal for people with experience working in Pupil Referral Unit’s (PRU) or a challenging care environment.
Requirements for SEMH support:
- You must be comfortable supporting pupils with SEMH & challenging behaviour
- Ability to engage and support pupils
- Able to stay calm and de-escalate challenging Behaviour
- Valid DBS registered with the online update service or be willing to apply for a new one
- EWC registered - Teaching Personnel can help with this.
The successful applicant will be joining the school's inclusion provision which gives support to pupils that are vulnerable and often challenging nature. You will work closely with your colleagues to create action plans for students across Key Stages 3 and 4, taking an active role in implementing a programme that positively encourages learners to overcome barriers to learning, improve their skills and ultimately setting them up for progression into adult life.
You will be supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD and severe challenging behaviour. Having experience with these types of back ground is favourable as you will understand the environment you will be working in. The school will provide on job training as well as inset days dedicated to managing SEMH.
We are looking to appoint someone enthusiastic and dynamic, who is also willing to learn new skills to support the pupils. The successful SEMH support will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of the key issues currently affecting young people.
