Help Re-engage Young People and Transform Futures

Are you passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to overcome barriers and achieve success? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and confidence to build positive relationships with students who may have experienced significant challenges in education and life?

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a specialist secondary SEMH provision in the Bolton area seeking a dedicated SEMH Outreach Support Worker to join their team on a full-time, term-time-only basis.

This specialist setting supports students aged 11-16 who present with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety, trauma, attachment difficulties, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, challenging behaviour, school avoidance, and other barriers to learning. Many pupils have experienced disrupted educational journeys and require consistent support to help them re-engage with education and build positive outcomes for the future.

The school prides itself on its nurturing, relationship-focused approach and works closely with students, families, and external agencies to create personalised pathways that enable young people to succeed both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted outreach support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people who may be disengaged from education.
  • Conduct home visits and community-based support where appropriate.
  • Support students experiencing barriers to attendance and engagement.
  • Assist with behaviour intervention strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Support students during transitions back into education.
  • Promote positive behaviour, confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.
  • Record and monitor student progress, attendance, and wellbeing.
  • Support educational activities, enrichment opportunities, and personal development programmes.
  • Act as a positive role model and mentor for vulnerable young people.

Requirements

  • A valid UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle for outreach work.
  • Previous experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional support needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient, and professional in challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Experience within SEMH schools, PRUs, alternative provisions, youth work, social care, mentoring, or support work.
