Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated SEMH Learning Mentor to join a specialist secondary school in the Salford area, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This specialist provision caters for students who may present with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition, anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, attachment difficulties, and challenges with emotional regulation. The school offers a nurturing, structured environment with small class sizes, personalised support, and a strong emphasis on building positive relationships.
About the Role
As an SEMH Learning Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting students to manage their emotions, engage positively with learning, and develop the skills needed to succeed in education and beyond. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to provide consistent support throughout the school day.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs.
- Support pupils to engage positively in lessons and learning activities.
- Build strong, professional relationships that promote trust, confidence, and personal growth.
- Use restorative practices and de-escalation strategies to support behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Encourage resilience, self-esteem, and positive decision-making.
- Support students during social times, transitions, and other unstructured periods.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, families, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working with children or young people within education, youth work, residential care, sports coaching, mentoring, support work, or similar settings.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviour professionally and positively.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
- Ability to adapt to the individual needs of pupils and respond effectively in different situations.
- Relevant qualifications are beneficial but not essential.
