Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Inclusion Support Assistant to join a well-established Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Manchester area.

This rewarding role involves supporting students aged 11-16 who require additional support outside of mainstream education. Pupils may present with a range of needs including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), trauma-related behaviours, anxiety, attachment difficulties, anger regulation challenges, behavioural needs, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and disengagement from education.

PRUs provide specialist, nurturing environments where young people can rebuild confidence, develop emotional resilience, and re-engage with learning. As an SEMH Inclusion Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and behaviour specialists, you will provide targeted support to students both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH and behavioural needs
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people
• Support pupils to engage in lessons and educational activities
• Assist with behaviour management using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
• Help students develop emotional regulation, social skills, and self-confidence
• De-escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally
• Support students during break times, transitions, and enrichment activities
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
• Monitor student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
• Promote attendance, engagement, and positive learning outcomes

Requirements

• Experience working with young people displaying challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Calm, patient, and resilient approach
• Ability to remain professional in challenging situations
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
• Team Teach training desirable but not essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
