Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential? Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a Behaviour & Pastoral Support Mentor to join a specialist secondary SEMH school in the Trafford area.

This rewarding role involves supporting students aged 11-16 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety, attachment difficulties, trauma-related behaviours, ADHD, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, challenging behaviour, and difficulties engaging in mainstream education. Many pupils require consistent, positive role models who can help them build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to succeed both academically and personally.

The Role

As a Behaviour & Pastoral Support Mentor, you will:

• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions focused on wellbeing, confidence, social skills, and emotional regulation.
• Support students both inside and outside the classroom to maximise engagement with learning.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques when required.
• Encourage positive choices, attendance, and participation throughout the school day.
• Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, therapists, and external agencies.
• Act as a positive role model, promoting resilience, self-belief, and personal growth.
• Monitor student progress and contribute to support plans and behavioural targets.
• Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who have:

• Experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour or additional needs.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to maintain professional boundaries while building trust and rapport.
• A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
• Experience in education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, residential care, support work, psychology, sports coaching, or similar sectors.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
