Science Teacher - Southwark - Immediate Start - £120 - £180

This schools Science Department is a vibrant and energetic team of specialists, who offer a range of qualifications across academic, and where appropriate vocational pathways. This includes Double and Triple Science at GCSE, alongside A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics supplemented by a successful and rigorously taught Level 3 BTEC Applied Science. At KS3 students follow a new curriculum that develops curiosity about the way the world works and seeks to uncover the inner beauty that Science has to reveal. The school seeks to promote a lifelong love of learning and their broad and balanced curriculum means they provide a platform for their students to compete for the most competitive courses at university and most sought after jobs. Many of their Post 16 students go on to study Science at a higher level, in areas including medicine, pharmacology and engineering.

This role would suit an experienced teacher or a NQT. The school welcomes and supports NQTs with an excellent NQT program, tailored to individual needs, where you will be supported by a mentor. Support and training is continued after the first year of teaching.

The successful candidate must:

  • Have a good track record in raising attainment and accelerating progress.
  • Be a passionate advocate of the subject who contributes effectively to departmental and whole school improvement.
  • Be able to teach across the age and ability range ideally up to A-Level standard.
  • Be able and willing to make a full contribution to the life of the school.
  • Have high expectations of themselves and others.
  • Be a good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Be flexible and a good team player.

Main Responsibilities of the KS3 & KS5 Science Teacher:

  • To teach Science to groups of students from all abilities across years 7-13.
  • To ensure that all the lessons are planned with clear aims and objectives.
  • To ensure that all lessons are delivered in line with the departmental schemes of work and school policies.
  • To check that all subject matter is effectively communicated and understood by all groups of students.
  • To set appropriate tasks and challenges for homework according to the published timetable.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is regularly marked with constructive feedback.
  • To keep careful records of student progress in line with departmental and school policy.
  • To ensure that there is a high standard of display work in the laboratory, which is changed frequently.
  • To keep work areas tidy and organised to promote safety in the laboratory.
