Job Opportunity: Science Specialist Teaching Assistant at Ofsted Good Secondary School in Stockport
Are you passionate about science and eager to support students in their scientific exploration and learning? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Science Specialist Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted Good secondary school in Stockport. This full-time position offers stability from after Easter until the end of the academic year, with the potential for permanent placement based on exceptional performance.
Role Overview: As a Science Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students' understanding and engagement in science subjects, helping them develop essential scientific skills and knowledge. Your responsibilities will include:
- Individualized Support: Providing targeted support to students who require additional assistance in understanding scientific concepts, conducting experiments, and completing assignments, both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
- Curriculum Support: Assisting teachers in delivering engaging science lessons across various disciplines, including biology, chemistry, and physics, preparing teaching materials, and facilitating practical activities to enhance students' understanding of scientific principles.
- Laboratory Assistance: Supporting teachers in setting up and managing laboratory experiments and demonstrations, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and assisting students in conducting experiments and recording observations.
- Differentiated Instruction: Supporting the implementation of differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students, ensuring that all students have access to appropriate challenges and support in their scientific learning.
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assisting teachers in assessing student progress, collecting data, and providing feedback to inform teaching and learning strategies, interventions, and individualized support plans.
- Behaviour Management: Implementing positive behaviour management strategies to create a safe and productive learning environment in the science classroom, promoting curiosity, collaboration, and respect among students.
- Collaboration: Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to develop and implement effective intervention strategies, share best practices, and support the overall development of students' scientific skills and understanding.
Requirements:
- A strong passion for science and a desire to support students in their scientific exploration and learning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting students' scientific understanding and skills development.
- Resilience and the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
- Previous experience working with students in an educational setting is desirable but not essential.
