School Youth Worker

I am currently looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Youth Worker to join an Alternative Provision for Education in York. The school caters for around 100 pupils aged 4-16 who are unable to attend mainstream education for multitude of reasons. Pupils may have a number of additional needs including Autism and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH). The school provides a nurturing and supportive environment where pupils feel listened to, cared for and are encouraged to succeed. 

Working as a Youth Worker and Mentor in school you will be required to work with pupils on a 1-1 basis as required. This may involve working with the same pupil for an extended period of time or multiple pupils on a day-to-day basis, providing support and guidance to those who need it that day. You will assist in lessons with pupils learning but also provide emotional and pastoral support, therefore being able to demonstrate empathy, understanding and patience is essential. 

Person Specification 

• Level 3 or equivalent qualifications
• At least 6 months experience working with children and young people 
• Experience supporting people with SEMH is ideal but not essential 
• Demonstrate a willingness to engage with pupils and support their learning 
• Be part of a wider staff team who support one another and share best practice 
• Have relevant training such as Team Teach or be willing to undergo training
• Hold a DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
