Want to Become a Teacher?

If teaching is something you've been considering, but you'd like to gain hands-on experience in a secondary school before committing to teacher training, this could be the perfect opportunity.

We're looking for graduates and career changers who are passionate about making a difference and want to build a long-term career in education. You'll earn a salary while gaining valuable classroom experience and working towards becoming a qualified teacher.

This is a 2-year salaried route into teaching, combining paid school-based experience with formal teacher training. By the end of the programme, you'll have developed the skills, confidence and qualifications needed to launch your teaching career, achieving both PGCE and QTS.

Start Your Journey in a Liverpool Secondary School

During your first year, you'll work as a Cover Supervisor within one of our partner secondary schools across Liverpool and the surrounding areas, including Wirral, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton and South Liverpool.

You'll become part of the school community from day one, gaining a thorough understanding of school life while developing the confidence and experience needed to progress into teacher training.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Delivering lessons using pre-planned resources provided by teachers
  • Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Supporting pupils with learning activities and engagement
  • Working alongside teaching staff and school leaders
  • Observing experienced teachers and learning effective classroom practice
  • Building positive relationships with students
  • Participating in ongoing training and professional development
  • Developing key skills in communication, leadership and classroom management

This first year is designed to give you the practical experience needed to prepare for your teacher training year.

Year 2 – Progress Into Teacher Training

In your second year, you'll transition into formal teacher training while continuing to work within a secondary school environment.

You'll work towards achieving:

  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Throughout the programme, you'll receive support from experienced teachers, mentors and training providers while gradually increasing your classroom responsibilities.

You'll be able to put theory into practice immediately, helping you develop into a confident and effective teacher.

What's Included?

  • Competitive salary of £23,000–£27,000
  • Fully funded PGCE and QTS
  • No tuition fees
  • Two years of paid school-based experience
  • Dedicated mentoring and coaching
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • Practical classroom experience from the outset
  • Structured progression into a teaching career
  • Opportunities for permanent teaching positions upon qualification

Could This Be You?

We're keen to hear from graduates and aspiring educators who are enthusiastic about working with young people and making a positive impact in secondary education.

You'll need:

  • A UK bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A professional and reliable approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • A willingness to learn and develop through feedback
  • A genuine desire to become a teacher

No previous teaching experience is required.

Whether you're a recent graduate or looking to change careers, we'll provide the training, support and experience needed to help you succeed.
