Job description

Future Teachers Programme

Weymouth | January 2027 Start

Ideal for Graduates & Career Changers from Weymouth, Dorchester, Bridport, Portland and Surrounding Areas

Not sure whether teaching is the right career for you?

The best way to find out isn't through a university prospectus. It's by stepping into a classroom.

Teaching Personnel is working with a secondary school in Weymouth seeking ambitious graduates and career changers to join its Future Teachers Programme from January 2027.

This opportunity has been designed for individuals who are considering a career in teaching but would like to gain real classroom experience before committing to a PGCE or teacher training route.

Whether you've recently graduated or you're currently working in another industry and looking for a more rewarding career, this programme provides the chance to develop your skills within a secondary school environment while making a genuine difference to young people's education.

What Will You Be Doing?

You'll become part of a busy and supportive secondary school, working alongside teachers and students across Key Stages 3 and 4.

No two days are the same, but responsibilities typically include:

  • Supporting students during lessons.
  • Delivering small group interventions.
  • Working one-to-one with pupils who require additional support.
  • Encouraging engagement and confidence within the classroom.
  • Assisting teachers with learning activities and classroom management.
  • Building positive relationships with students and staff.

From day one, you'll gain a realistic insight into life in a secondary school and begin developing the skills needed to progress into teaching.

A Two-Year Pathway Into Teaching

The Future Teachers Programme has been designed to help you build experience gradually.

During your first year, the focus is on understanding school life, developing classroom confidence and learning from experienced teachers.

The second year, you will take on the Initial Teacher Training and develop into becoming a Fully Qualified Teacher.

Who Are We Looking For?

There is no single route into teaching.

Many of our most successful Future Teachers have come from backgrounds including:

  • Recent graduates.
  • Customer-facing and management roles.
  • Sports coaching and fitness industries.
  • Youth work and mentoring.
  • Training and development positions.
  • Creative and performing arts backgrounds.
  • Armed Forces personnel looking for a new career.

If you're confident, resilient and enjoy working with young people, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Apply?

  • Gain hands-on experience in a secondary school.
  • Receive guidance from experienced education professionals.
  • Explore teaching before committing to training.
  • Develop transferable leadership and communication skills.
  • Build a strong foundation for a future career in education.
  • Make a positive impact on the lives of young people every day.

As part of the programme, you'll benefit from:

  • £23,000–£27,000 annual salary
  • A salaried position from the beginning of the programme.
  • A fully funded PGCE.
  • The opportunity to work towards QTS.
  • Two years based within the same school.
  • Dedicated mentoring and professional development.
  • Extensive hands-on classroom experience.
  • A supportive route into a long-term teaching career.

You'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A positive and resilient attitude
  • A genuine interest in education
  • Commitment to the two-year programme

This role is based in Weymouth, with excellent commuting links from Dorchester, Bridport, Portland, Chickerell, Wareham and surrounding Dorset areas, making it an excellent opportunity for graduates and career changers across the region.
