Job description

Teaching Personnel is seeking dedicated and compassionate Pupil Support Assistants to join specialist SEMH and SEN schools across Wigan. These schools cater for pupils aged 5–16 with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, and social, emotional and mental health challenges.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and SEN needs.
  • Assist with classroom activities and help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Support pupils in developing positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams.
  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEMH (in education, care, youth work, or similar settings).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel).
  • Relevant qualifications or training are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
