Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant
Job description
Teaching Personnel is recruiting Alternative Provision Teaching Assistants to support pupils in specialist SEMH and SEN schools across Wigan. These schools provide alternative education for pupils aged 5–16 who may not thrive in mainstream settings due to social, emotional, or mental health needs, or other additional needs such as autism and ADHD.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils in accessing alternative education pathways, both on-site and in off-site provisions.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
- Assist with the delivery of tailored interventions and personalised learning programmes.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies.
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
Candidate Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEMH, ideally in alternative provision or similar settings.
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
- Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Patience, resilience, and a flexible approach.
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel).
- Relevant qualifications or training are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
