About the Role
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join one of our specialists SEMH secondary schools in Wigan. You will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them to thrive both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students in the classroom and around school, helping them to engage positively with learning.
- Use de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour and maintain a calm, safe environment.
- Build trusting, empathetic relationships with students, providing emotional support and encouragement.
- Aid students’ social and personal development, promoting positive social skills, resilience, and self-esteem in all interactions.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents/carers to ensure consistent support.
- Work closely with teachers to adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with young people with SEMH needs (desirable but not essential).
- Strong skills in de-escalation, empathy, and communication.
- A calm, patient, and supportive approach.
- The ability to work as part of a team and build positive relationships.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Requirements
- An enhanced DBS on the update service
- At least two professional references covering the past 2 years
- Safeguarding training (Provided)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
