Teaching Personnel are working closely with a small independent school for boys and girls between 11 and 16 years of age, who join the school with low attainment due to their disrupted previous educational experiences. Pupils have either been at significant risk of exclusion or have been excluded from their previous school. Frequently, pupils join part-way through the year. Nearly all pupils have an education, health and care plan related to social, emotional or mental health difficulties.
The school is situated within the Gillingham area. There are five classrooms, a chill-out room and a small outside area.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in an EBD school or PRU. It is imperative you have a calm personality and are confident working on a 1:1 basis, as students can sometimes be placed in isolation. For more experienced candidates the school are open to speaking about additional responsibilities. Specialist training will also be provided to ensure you are providing the best support to students.
Key skills and experience needed:
* Experience working in specialist schools such as SEN schools or Pupil Referral Units
* Previous support work within a school or other child related experience
* Strong behaviour management and confident with challenging behaviour
* SEN experience is essential
* One to one and small group work
* Professional manner
* Enthusiastic and friendly, yet firm approach
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates applying to posts through Teaching Personnel must undertake or have undertaken the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) application form.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
