Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Opportunity in Wilmslow

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant for a full-time role at an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Wilmslow. This position begins in December and runs through the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance. Weekly pay is between £419.25 and £500.

Role Overview:

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will support students with a range of learning needs, leveraging your psychology knowledge to make a positive impact on their educational and social experiences. This role is ideal for a psychology graduate who is interested in understanding educational psychology firsthand, especially those considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, or youth work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Work closely with students on a one-to-one or small-group basis to build confidence, promote positive behaviors, and enhance learning strategies. Provide additional support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Behavioral Assistance: Use psychological principles to assist in behavior management and reinforce positive interactions. Support students in managing anxiety, social skills, and emotional regulation.
  • Academic Guidance: Help students understand and apply classroom content, offering practical study strategies and breaking down complex material to foster learning independence.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Track individual student progress, documenting both achievements and areas for development. Share insights with the teaching team to support tailored interventions.
  • Pastoral Care: Engage with students in a way that promotes well-being, addressing individual social and emotional needs through supportive conversations and activities.
  • Learning Environment Management: Assist the classroom teacher with maintaining an environment conducive to learning, reinforcing a safe and focused atmosphere.
  • Workshops and Group Activities: Lead or support extracurricular activities and small group sessions that help students explore social and emotional topics relevant to their personal development.
  • Administrative Support: Prepare and organize materials for lessons, manage resources, and handle light administrative tasks to support teachers in their daily routines.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Psychology Graduate: Holds a degree in psychology or a related field, with a keen interest in applying psychological insights in educational settings.
  • Passionate About Education: Eager to contribute positively to students’ academic and personal growth, with an interest in exploring careers in education or mental health support.
  • Communication and Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with students and communicate effectively, particularly with students who may need emotional or behavioral support.
  • Adaptable and Patient: Flexible in approach, ready to adjust methods to meet the individual needs of each student and create an inclusive environment for all learners.
  • Team Player: Collaborative, willing to work closely with teachers, support staff, and students to create a cohesive learning experience.
  • Commitment to Safeguarding: Understanding of safeguarding policies and committed to upholding the highest standards of student welfare.

  • Start Date: December
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week
  • Contract: Temporary through the academic year, with potential for permanency based on performance.
