You will be responsible for working alongside the class teacher to support the students with their day to day learning activities. There may be occasions when you work with students in small groups to help enhance learning, for this you will need good reading, writing and numeracy skills. Work will be provided by the class teacher though there may be times when you are asked to print off an extra work sheet to support the students if you’re working with them in a small group or on a 1:1 basis as you will be aware of what level their working at and if there is anything specific they need extra support with. Good communication skills are required in this role as you will be responsible for communicating with the teacher about the students progression, there may also be times when you will be required to communicate with the SENCO and parents. Organisational skills are very important as you will be handling students work and be responsible for handing work out around the class and also taking work in so you will need to ensure you are keeping it safe and organised into the students books/ folders. You will need to be able to use your own initiative and be pro-active as you will need to float around the classroom and provide support to students who seem to be struggling to complete their work and to notice when a student needs assistance. Teaching resources are provided by the school and everything you will need will be in the classroom and available to you. You will need to be a good role model to promote positive pupil behaviour in line with the school’s social policies this will help to prevent bullying.
The ideal candidate will be aware of Child Protection, Health and Safety, Behaviour, Teaching and Learning and Equal Opportunities policies. You will also need a Child Workforce DBS which can be completed during the recruitment process.
We can offer you an enthusiastic team who will help you through your application process and offer you continuous opportunities to build your career.
