Primary School Autism Support Assistant - Canonbury, Islington

A lovely school in Canonbury is currently recruiting for an experienced 1:1 support assistant to join their team!

The role will involve supporting a child in Year 1 with Autism-Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Challenging Behaviour.

The school has been graded Ofsted 'Outstanding' in their most recent inspection. This is something the school is very proud of as it shows their commitment and strive to providing excellent education for their pupils. The school ethos surrounds the idea of inspiration and providing an exciting curriculum where pupils are challenged to learn more.

This school in particular is known for it's amazing array of extra-curricular activities - so if you're into any of the below, it could be an even better reason to apply! : Street Dance, Drama, Multisport (for KS1 and 2), Karate, Homework Support, Art, Mandarin, Keyboards and Songwriting, Football, Gymnastics, Archaeology (at Islington Museum), Creative Club, Mini Music, Gutsy Girls, Book Club, Debate Mate.

The special educational needs and disabilities department will offer a great amount of support when you join their team. You will also benefit from learning from specialists such as: Education Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and other medical professionals. The school also offers various different training courses conducted both internally and externally to aid you with your development.

The school have close links with local theatre companies, as well as the Royal College of Music. This allows both pupils and staff to immerse themselves in the Arts and learn from professional musicians, dramatists and dancers. This is supported by weekly music and arts lessons and extra-curricular activities such as the school orchestra.

Shortlisting criteria include:

  • Experience working with ASC and/or challenging behaviour
  • A willingness and passion to be involved with extra-curricular activities
  • Desire for helping raise pupil attainment
