Are you a passionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant ready to make a genuine impact? Teaching Personnel are working with a specialist pupil referral setting in Salford that supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside Autism (ASC), ADHD, behavioural challenges, and pupils at risk of exclusion or disengagement from mainstream education.

This provision offers a structured, therapeutic and supportive learning environment, focusing on re-engagement, emotional development, and positive behaviour change.


The Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students who require additional guidance to manage behaviour, build resilience, and access education in a meaningful way. You’ll play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood, and motivated to succeed.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and additional needs
  • Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development
  • Assist in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and attendance
  • Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour strategies
  • Support the implementation of EHCPs, behaviour plans, and interventions
  • Promote a calm, safe, and structured classroom environment
  • Record and monitor student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviour (education, youth work, care, or similar)
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour support
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
