PE Teaching Assistant - Wigan

Are you a Physical Education (PE) specialist wishing to pursue a career in teaching in the future? Do you have experience working with children and young people in an educational or coaching capacity?

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a PE Teaching Assistant for an Ofsted graded 'Good' Secondary school in Wigan ahead of September 2018. This full time temporary position will include delivering PE lessons with full support, covering other lessons across the curriculum and leading extra curricular sports activities.

This position has arisen due to additional funding within the support department, and will initially be offered on a temporary basis for two terms.

  • Expect to earn up to £1200 per month. *Experience dependent
  • Experience working children and young people is essential for this position.
  • Initially offered for two terms, potential of an extension
  • Working within an supportive school - graded 'Good' by Ofsted

You will have the opportunity to develop your coaching skills, leading small group sessions or taking warm up and cool down activities whilst the class teacher prepares to teach the main lesson. You will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment is set up prior to the lesson taking place and ensuring that once the lesson has finished that all of the equipment it is all put away safely and appropriately. You will be supporting the class teacher throughout the lesson to help promote positive behaviour management and ensure that lessons run smoothly.

During quieter periods within the PE department, you will have the opportunity to cover other lessons across the curriculum with pre-set work, fully developing your classroom presence and preparing you for a teacher training course in the future.

The Head of Department is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and well organised individual and is looking to meet with candidates prior to the new school year in September.

The school is larger than the average Secondary school with approximately 1300 pupils currently on roll. This is a school where behaviour is good and students feel safe at school. They show respect for adults and for each other and their highly conscientious attitudes to learning are an important factor in their achievement.

The school is located on the outskirts of Wigan bordering Salford which makes for easy access from surrounding areas; St Helens, Warrington, Leigh and Chorley.
