Pastoral Support Assistant

Do you have previous experience working with young people and a desire to get into a career in education and secondary schools?

This secondary school in Trafford that’s going through a period of dynamic improvement is looking to bring on a Pastoral Support Assistant to work with students experiencing difficulties on a daily basis. The role will be full time and temporary, initially lasting for the summer term and could become permanent in the new academic year.

The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated team that responds to challenging behaviour and students experiencing difficulties day to day. Pastoral Support Assistants will provide information and advice to students and organise structured intervention to enable students to make positive choices about their behaviour, social interactions and attendance.

PSA’s will also need to be able to liaise with senior school staff and teachers to plan intervention and pastoral support sessions, collaborating on strategies and developing strong working relationships with the rest of the schools support staff. PSA’s will also need to form good working relationships with the students they support, working to be positive and professional role models and promoting positive behaviour, inclusion and raising self-esteem.

Some highlights of this role will include:

  • Providing daily support to students experiencing difficulties or displaying challenging behaviour
  • Working with SEN coordinators, teachers and other senior school staff to organise intervention and pastoral sessions
  • Always working to promote positive behaviour, self-esteem and inclusion amongst vulnerable students
  • Developing strong links with student parents and carers to keep them updated on academic progress, behaviour etc
  • Full-time temporary position with the potential to become permanent in the new academic year
  • Weekly wages of up to GBP350 a week
  • Dynamic school celebrating recent successes and improvement looking to bolster their support staff and continue to provide the best care for students

Candidates will need to demonstrate previous experience working with young people, must be able to provide suitable previous employment references and will need to apply for a Child Workforce DBS certificate. Previous experience working in secondary schools is preferable, as well as previous experience working with SEN students/ young people.

The role is ideal for candidates local to Trafford including Northern Moor, Stretford, Altrincham and the surrounding areas. Applications are also encouraged from candidates in Didsbury and Withington.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
