Pastoral 1:1 Support Worker

Our client offers a nurturing, safe and non-judgemental space for children who display challenging behaviour. These pupils might be LAC (Looked After Children) or from a disadvantaged background so we need someone who is empathetic and passionate about having a positive affect and contribution to their education and lives. The school is based in Torbay and is a specialist provision for students that have been excluded from mainstream education. It offers support in academic and vocational subjects, identifying the strengths of the students and working with them to help them to become independent and employable.

This role would particularly suit:

• Teaching Assistants looking for a new challenge.
• People with experience working with challenging children.
• People who are wanting to gain more experience in teaching/mental health.

The candidate will carry out the following duties:

• Undertaking tasks set by the class teacher.
• Supporting children within the class.
• Building up rapport between yourself and the pupils.
• Managing the classroom under the direction of the class teacher.
• Supporting children with SEN ranging from mild to severe.
• Working with small groups of 1-2-1.
