Mentor required in Southampton

Date posted : 25/04/19
£10 - £20 per hour

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Teaching Personnel work closely with Southampton Virtual School and Southampton SEN Service where we support pupils that cannot access education in school. We support them with 1:1 tutors however there is becoming a large need for mentors. This would involve working with the child to support them with their Social and emotional skills as well as supporting with any mental health needs they may have. There are many reasons why a pupil may require mentoring and not attend school such as:

  • Behavioural difficulties
  • Social Difficulties
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Disengagement from school
  • Low self-esteem/confidence
  • Missed quite a lot of school

The role of the mentor would be to build a positive relationship/rapport with the pupil by doing activities with them which could be in the home, in a local library/centre or out in the community. This sessions would not need to specifically involve any education however anything that can be involved would be an advantage. The main aim is to prepare the pupil to go back into education, depending on the pupil this could be by:

  • Helping them manage their emotions/behaviour
  • Giving them more confidence
  • Improving their self-esteem
  • Helping with their social skills
  • Assisting with their anxiety

The work would be a few hours a day with the pupil however there is a possibility that you can pick up a few pupils to make this full time work.

If you have experience with similar types of needs before and think you could make a difference with these pupils please send through your CV or call 02380 836648.
