Do you have experience in Youth Work?
A challenging Pupil Referral Unit in a North Liverpool suburb is looking to recruit a Mentor on a temporary basis for students with social, emotional and mental health needs.
The School
The Pupil Referral Unit is rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted.
Students follow a mostly vocational curriculum alongside core subjects to give them the functional skills necessary for independence in later life.
Students referred are of secondary age and are unable to attend mainstream education due to exclusion, challenging behaviours or specific needs, which is where you come in.
The Role
As Mentor you have the opportunity to make a profound difference to a student’s day to day school life by providing social and emotional support as well as advising on educational choices. Your responsibilities will include;
- Classroom support - activities, organisation, engagement, behaviour, emotional support
- 1:1 intervention
- De-escalation
To be considered for the role of Mentor you should have some of the following attributes;
- Experience in Youth Work
- Experience as Teaching Assistant
- Experience with children
- Experience in education/ school environment
- Resilient and calm personality
- Ability to be direct and influential
Please be aware that all applicants will be subject to background checks and will need a current DBS certificate (update service registered).
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm approximately.
The school require on and off support throughout the year depending on student intake and staffing needs, so there is always opportunity for contract extension and permanent roles for staff who are a great asset to the school.

- GBP9.50 an hour or above
