Job description

Job Title: Maths Teacher (Key Stage 3 – Full Time)
Location: Fazakerley (PRU School)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-Time, with potential for a permanent position
Start Date: ASAP

A nurturing and resilient Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Fazakerley is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Maths Teacher to deliver high-quality teaching to Key Stage 3 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a full-time role with the potential to become permanent, ideal for a passionate educator who thrives in a challenging yet rewarding environment.

About the School:

The school supports pupils who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. Learners present with a range of behavioural and emotional challenges, and many have experienced disrupted educational journeys. The setting focuses on providing structure, care, and consistency to help students re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated maths lessons in line with the Key Stage 3 curriculum

  • Create a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment

  • Implement strong behaviour management strategies tailored to the needs of individual pupils

  • Support students' emotional and social development alongside their academic progress

  • Work collaboratively with support staff, SENCOs, and external agencies

  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and pastoral reports

  • Adapt teaching approaches to suit a range of learning styles and SEMH needs

  • Promote positive relationships and act as a consistent, compassionate adult presence

Ideal Candidate Qualities:

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification (ECTs will be considered with suitable placement experience)

  • Proven experience teaching maths, ideally within a PRU, SEMH, or alternative provision setting

  • Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • Strong resilience, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure

  • A nurturing, empathetic approach with high expectations for all learners

  • Ability to form strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable students

  • Flexibility, teamwork, and a proactive attitude

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
