Learning Support Assistant – Secondary SEMH School
Location: Southampton
Start Date: September 2025
Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Fixed Term: Academic Year 2025–26

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? Do you thrive in environments where building strong, trusting relationships with clear and consistent boundaries is key to success?

A small, specialist secondary SEMH school in Southampton is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their supportive team for the 2025–2026 academic year. This is a full-time, term-time only position, ideal for someone with a strong commitment to helping young people navigate their education and personal development.

About the Role:

  • Support students aged 11–16 with SEMH needs, many of whom have experienced trauma or face mental health challenges

  • Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to implement personalised strategies and learning plans

  • Provide emotional regulation support, encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in learning

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils while maintaining professional boundaries

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, mental health difficulties, or trauma

  • Relevant experience in education, youth work, social care, or therapeutic settings

  • A calm, resilient and empathetic nature with the ability to de-escalate challenging behaviour

  • Qualifications in education, mental health, or child development (desirable but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
