Learning Support Assistant (SEN) – Southampton
Pay Rate: £13.75 per hour
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Teaching Personnel is currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to join a number of special educational needs (SEN) schools across Southampton. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs in a structured, nurturing educational environment.

About the Schools:

Our partner schools specialise in supporting pupils with a wide range of complex needs, including but not limited to:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

  • Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

These schools provide an inclusive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential through individualised learning and therapeutic support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students on a one-to-one basis or within small groups, as directed by the class teacher or SENCO

  • Assisting with the delivery of personalised education plans (EHCPs)

  • Promoting a positive learning environment and managing behaviour effectively

  • Encouraging students’ social and emotional development and fostering independence

  • Supporting with personal care tasks where applicable (depending on school requirements)

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly in SEN or care settings

  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to working with vulnerable learners

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn

  • (Desirable) Training in Makaton, PECS, or Team Teach is advantageous but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
