Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a patient, committed and adaptable School Assistant to join a dedicated team supporting pupils with a range of complex needs. You will play a key role in helping children access learning, develop independence, and experience a safe, structured and positive school environment.

You’ll work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to deliver tailored support that meets individual pupil needs.


What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Support pupils individually and in small groups across a broad curriculum, under teacher direction
  • Build trusting, positive relationships that promote confidence, wellbeing and inclusion
  • Adapt your approach to meet a range of learning, communication, physical and emotional needs
  • Support the delivery of personalised learning plans (including IEPs)
  • Prepare, modify and use learning resources to support engagement and progress
  • Encourage independence, participation and positive learning behaviours
  • Observe, record and share information on pupil progress and development
  • Support behaviour management in line with school policy and training
  • Provide personal care and welfare support where required, including:
    • First aid and medication support
    • Personal hygiene assistance
    • Supporting therapy programmes (e.g. physio or sensory programmes)
    • Safe moving and handling support
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers and external professionals
  • Support the wider school environment, including:
    • Classroom preparation and resource organisation
    • Break and lunchtime supervision
    • Supporting arrival and dismissal routines

Salary

£15,084 – £16,724 per year

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
