Now Hiring: Learning Support Assistant – Support Young Minds to Thrive in the Classroom

Location: Newport
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: From £89.38 per day
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Full-time & part-time available)

A vibrant and inclusive primary school in Newport is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join their team and help children thrive—emotionally, socially, and academically.


About the Role:

In this varied and rewarding role, you’ll provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils across different year groups—helping them engage with the curriculum, manage emotions, and build confidence in the classroom.

You’ll work closely with class teachers and the school’s SENCO to deliver tailored support for pupils with additional learning needs (ALN), including autism, ADHD, and social-emotional challenges.


What You’ll Be Doing:

Supporting children with a range of additional needs—academic, social, and emotional
Assisting with lessons and helping pupils access learning in a way that suits them
Helping pupils develop core skills in literacy, numeracy, communication, and emotional regulation
Encouraging positive behaviour and helping children express themselves constructively
Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families
Creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment


We're Looking for Someone Who:

✅ Is passionate about helping children reach their full potential
✅ Is calm, empathetic, and able to connect with pupils of all backgrounds
✅ Can work closely with teaching staff to meet pupils’ individual needs
✅ Is flexible, proactive, and a great team player
✨ Experience in a school or support role is helpful—but not essential if you have the right attitude and willingness to learn

Requirements:

Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
️ Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (child-only)
Two professional references from the last 24 months
A commitment to safeguarding and supporting all children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
