SEN Teaching Assistant | Higher Blackley | Teaching Personnel

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Higher Blackley from September.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASC, PMLD, CLDD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and sensory processing needs. You will provide both 1:1 and small group support, helping students access learning, develop independence, regulate emotions, and achieve their individual goals in a specialist educational setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
• Support students in accessing learning and engaging with classroom activities.
• Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management strategies.
• Promote emotional wellbeing, confidence, and self-esteem.
• Assist with personal care when required, including toileting, hygiene, feeding, and mobility support.
• Encourage communication, social interaction, independence, and life skills development.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff.
• Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.

Essential Requirements

• Enhanced Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one before starting work.
• Experience supporting children, young people, or adults with additional needs.
• Confidence in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner.
• Personal care experience, or willingness to undertake relevant training.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Patient, resilient, and passionate about helping vulnerable young people succeed.

Desirable Experience

• Experience supporting individuals with ASC, PMLD, CLDD, or SEMH needs.
• Team Teach or similar behaviour management training.
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or other communication systems.
• Previous experience within specialist schools, residential care, support work, healthcare, or similar settings.
