SEN Teaching Assistant | Higher Blackley | Teaching Personnel
Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Higher Blackley from September.
This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASC, PMLD, CLDD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and sensory processing needs. You will provide both 1:1 and small group support, helping students access learning, develop independence, regulate emotions, and achieve their individual goals in a specialist educational setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
- Support students in accessing learning and engaging with classroom activities.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management strategies.
- Promote emotional wellbeing, confidence, and self-esteem.
- Assist with personal care when required, including toileting, hygiene, feeding, and mobility support.
- Encourage communication, social interaction, independence, and life skills development.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff.
- Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Enhanced Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one before starting work.
- Experience supporting children, young people, or adults with additional needs.
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner.
- Personal care experience, or willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Patient, resilient, and passionate about helping vulnerable young people succeed.
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting individuals with ASC, PMLD, CLDD, or SEMH needs.
- Team Teach or similar behaviour management training.
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or other communication systems.
- Previous experience within specialist schools, residential care, support work, healthcare, or similar settings.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
