Job description
Learning Support Assistant
Location: Andover, Hampshire
Hours: Monday–Friday, Term Time Only
Pay: £14.25 per hour
Make a Real Difference Every Day
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people and looking for a role where the work you do genuinely matters?
We are looking for enthusiastic and caring Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist school in the Andover area. The school supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including autism, communication difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build a rewarding career in education or gain valuable experience working with young people. Previous school experience isn't essential - we're also keen to hear from people with backgrounds in care, youth work, mentoring, coaching, support work, healthcare, childcare, or customer service.
You'll join a nurturing and structured school environment where pupils are supported to build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals. With small class sizes and a dedicated staff team, you'll have the opportunity to develop strong relationships with pupils and make a meaningful difference to their everyday lives.
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers and the wider support team to help pupils get the most from their school day.
Every day will be different, and you'll play an important role in creating a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Providing one-to-one and small-group support
-
Assisting teachers with classroom activities and adapting learning where required
-
Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, communication, and independence
-
Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions and manage behaviour positively
-
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
-
Supporting social development, communication, and life skills
-
Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support professionals
-
Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and enrichment activities
-
Helping create a calm, inclusive, and encouraging environment where every pupil can thrive
About You
We're looking for someone who is patient, compassionate, resilient, and positive, with a genuine desire to help young people succeed.
Experience is valuable, but it's not essential. Your attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are just as important.
You may have experience in:
-
Education or teaching support
-
Care or support work
-
Youth work, mentoring, or coaching
-
Residential care
-
Mental health support
-
Sports coaching
-
Nursery or childcare
-

-
Customer-facing or community-based roles
If you're a confident communicator who can remain calm and positive in challenging situations, build strong relationships, and see the potential in every young person, we'd love to hear from you.
