The School:

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking new Learning Support Assistants, with a range of ability, in Andover and surrounding area. The vacancy available is for a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health school, in central Andover, catering to Primary aged pupils with complex needs. The needs of attending pupils are varied, but can include Autism or Behavioural Difficulties.

The School is rated Outstanding by OFSTED, and really strive for the academic development of their pupils. Their focus being on developing their SEMH pupils that once time comes for them to leave for Secondary School, they are ready both Academically and Pastorally for Mainstream School - last year they boasted having nearly half of their Year 6 pupils heading to Mainstream Secondary Schools.

They use a blended curriculum within specialised classrooms so they can teach every child at their personal academic level. Each half term the school use a new topic to teach their pupils across the National Curriculum; for example whilst learning about the Romans they combine Art, Literacy and Maths to teach the topic throughout the day.

The School encourage regular internal promotion, taking LSAs through every step until they are Cover Supervisors or even higher. This ensures the pupils have continuity but also that processes the school use are stuck to; it also creates great opportunities for successful candidates!

The Role:

Applicants will be working in a classroom no bigger than 10 pupils, alongside two fellow members of staff. Every classroom has a Teacher, High Level Teaching Assistant and a Learning Support Assistant. All of which looking to support the pupils both academically and pastorally.

Hours: 8:45 - 16:00, Monday - Tuesday and 8:45 - 15:00, Wednesday - Friday.

Full time is preferred but part time applicants may still apply, as job shares can be available.

The Candidate:

Ideal applicants should have previous experience working with complex behaviour or challenging needs pupils within a classroom environment.

Although classroom experience is desirable, candidates with experience in support work or experience with challenging needs pupils via extra curriculum activities can excel in this role.

Without professional experience any personal experience with the following could help the candidate in this role:

  • Psychology studies
  • Youth/Community work experience
  • Challenging behaviour within family
  • Passion for mentoring and/or pastoral support

Teaching Personnel do offer many development courses through our CPD Academy; such as Autism Awareness, Safeguarding and Team Teach to help support any successful candidates within this environment.
