Learning Support Assistant - Huddersfield

An alternative provision in Huddersfield are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to provide targeted support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a full time basis this September.

Established since 2008, our client provides short & long term interventions, through to full time delivery and management of education for young people in Key Stages 2 and 3.

The school builds bespoke pathways for students that includes a wide range of vocational options, whilst maintaining a focus on improving their core skills.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils who are yet to reach their full potential. You will work with colleagues to engage students and stabilise their educational situation - implementing bespoke education and behaviour plans to meet individual needs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain a high level of learner engagement through collaborative preparation and delivery of an innovative, creative and flexible curriculum
  • Use a collaborative and multi-agency holistic approach to delivering an education provision which includes attention to health and safety awareness, risk management and the safeguarding of young people
  • Advocate on behalf of the young people and their families in your care. Encourage their involvement in the decision making and the management of their programmes
  • Assist with the assessment, preparation, delivery and review of a learner's curriculum including contributions to lesson plans
  • Offer a variety of approaches and opportunities to focus on an engagement with learning and seek advice from designated subject leads where appropriate
  • Play an active part in the developments of the school by supporting curriculum and development strand leads to drive forward improvement strands in a positive way
  • Carry out additional duties as reasonably requested by the Head Teacher and be responsible for your own continuous professional development

You will be able to demonstrate some knowledge regarding teaching practice for young people with additional needs and have prior experience of working with children and young people or vulnerable adults within an education, health or social care setting.
