KS2 Teaching Assistant required for Stockton SEN school

Teaching Personnel are currently working in partnership with a SEN school in Stockton to recruit a learning support assistant to work with KS2 pupils. The school caters for KS1 and KS2 pupils with SEMH difficulties. This position has become available due to an unexpected intake and will begin with immediate effect. The successful candidate will be required until at least the end of 2017-2018 academic year. There is also the possibility that a permanent contract will be offered to the right candidate. The provision is easily accessible from the A19, the A1 and other main routes, including regular bus routes with parking also on site.

This Special School caters for students aged 4-11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties. Central to the school's ethos is the belief that all children should be provided with a supportive and nurturing setting to assist in dealing with their emotions and managing their behaviour. The school often accepts children from a mainstream setting and all staff are required to work alongside other schools and pupils' families to assist with this transition. If successful you will play an important role in this process.

The successful candidate will have experience in engaging disaffected children with low self-esteem who may suffer with some anxiety and/or anger management challenges. Desired backgrounds include Sports (coaching), Psychology, Youth Work, Art and Design and Music and training such as Team-teach Positive Intervention is desirable but can also be offered through our agency.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Teaching Assistant/HLTA experience with relevant additional qualifications or other transferable skills such as ex forces or sports coaches
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH or a willingness to learn
  • Patient and nurturing mannerism with excellent behaviour management skills
  • Additional training such as Team Teach and de-escalation is advantageou
  • What you can expect:

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
