Kick-Start Your Career in Education – Secondary School Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel is recruiting enthusiastic and motivated Teaching Assistants to work in secondary schools across Newport from September. Whether you're an aspiring teacher, recent graduate, experienced support worker, or someone looking for a meaningful career change, this is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience while making a genuine difference to students' lives.

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll work alongside teachers to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. You'll provide one-to-one support, assist small groups, and help create a positive, inclusive learning environment where every pupil has the opportunity to succeed.

This role is ideal for anyone wanting to build experience within education while developing valuable skills in behaviour management, communication, and supporting Additional Learning Needs (ALN).


What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting students across Key Stages 3 & 4
  • Providing 1:1 and small group intervention
  • Assisting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
  • Helping students stay engaged and focused during lessons
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams
  • Building positive relationships with pupils to boost confidence and achievement

Experience is beneficial but not essential. We welcome applicants from backgrounds including:

  • Customer Service & Hospitality
  • Mentoring
  • Nursery or Childcare
  • Volunteering with Young People

✅ Requirements

We can support you through the registration process.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) Registration (or willingness to register)
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Two professional references covering the last 24 months
  • Right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
