School Support Assistant– Secondary School

Location: Newport, South Wales
Pay Rate: £92.63 Daily rate
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: September Start – End of Academic Year (Immediate start for the right applicant)

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting Secondary Support Assistants to work across a range of secondary schools in the Newport area. Whether you're looking for part-time hours, flexible working days, or experience within education before pursuing a long-term career, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

As a Secondary Support Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting students. Working alongside teachers and support staff, you will help create a positive learning environment where students feel supported, engaged, and able to achieve their potential.

This role is ideal for graduates, university students, aspiring teachers, youth workers, sports coaches, or individuals with experience working with young people.

The Role

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting students in lessons on a one-to-one basis or in small groups
  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities and learning resources
  • Encouraging student engagement and participation
  • Providing additional support to students who may require extra guidance
  • Promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing throughout the school day
  • Helping to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment

No two days are the same, making this an exciting and varied role within a secondary school setting.

Who We're Looking For

We would love to hear from candidates who:

  • Enjoy working with young people
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are patient, reliable, and adaptable
  • Can build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Have experience in education, coaching, mentoring, care work, customer service, or youth work

Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential.

  • Roles ranging from 1 to 5 days per week

Requirements

To register with Teaching Personnel, applicants will need:

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • EWC registration
  • Two professional references covering the last 24 months
  • To be aged 18 or over
  • A willingness to complete a Level 2 Safeguarding Course during onboarding

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
