Youth Worker / Behaviour Support Assistants

A Pupil Referral Unit, with a Primary and Secondary site, based in Lewisham & Croydon are looking for 2 Youth Workers and Behaviour Support workers to work with pupils. A successful candidate will have the right attitude alongside the experience in order to meet the demands of the role supporting SEN pupils with Challenging behaviour. Most of the pupils are on the Autism spectrum, with additional needs, such a ADHD, SEMH, SLD and MLD. The pupils have behaviour that is of a challenging nature, therefore you must have a resilient and firm-but-fair attitude.

Both roles are to start immediately and continue through the academic year, both full time.

You must be able to support and encourage pupils to develop both academically and socially. Unparalleled behaviour management skills are a must. If you have a background in Youth Work, Psychology, Sports (coaching), Art and Design and Music then this role is ideal for you.

The working hours are 8:30am - 3:30pm, up to 5 days a week. The school are looking to train the right candidate with the right resilient attitude.

You must have a DBS on the updated system, alongside relevant training, such as Team-teach Positive Intervention, Safe-guarding, and First Aid.

The role:

  • Provide early intervention initiatives for disadvantaged children (aged 8 - 18) at risk of social exclusion.
  • Design, develop and deliver educational workshops to engage young people and support their development.
  • Assist in the establishment of the new pastoral provision for the most vulnerable pupils (with SEMH and ASD).
  • Manage the planning, facilitation and evaluation of holistic programmes of learning and support - building strong relationships with pupils, families, colleagues and external agencies.
  • 1:1 with pupils, encourage them to stay focused during classes, support them during social activities to be confident and independent and recognise when they need comforting.
  • Plan the inductions of new pupils starting in the PRU, ensuring a smooth transfer into their new school, setting out targets in their Educational plans.
  • Write daily reports on pupil progress to ensure targets are being met.
