Our client school have approached us to provide an Instructor for a maternity cover, starting ASAP!

The school provides specialist support for up to 30 students, aged 5-17, with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. You must be confident and experienced in supporting students who express challenging behaviours.

Class sizes are small.

The role will be full-time and you will ideally have teaching experience, although this isn't essential if you feel you are capable of covering the key duties and responsibilities below.

Key duties/responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare short term plans for both PSHE and Health and Social Care in accordance with subject schemes of work.
- Plan how you will use Learning Support Assistants in the lesson, when available, and explain to them in advance what you require them to do.
- To assess all work done by children in a constructive way and within the Edexcel guidelines on marking. To supply assessment given and keep a record of attainment, progress and observations.
- Display children’s work so that they feel it is valued and to create an exciting and dynamic learning experience.
- Participate in the assessment of children by formal and informal means.
- Where necessary to either undertake one to one tuition with children unable to attend school, or prepare work such that a Learning Support Assistant could deliver it to a child unable to attend school.
- Where appropriate prepare children for examinations, Standard Attainment Tests and other awards and qualifications as may be desirable in individual cases. Work with colleagues and other professionals, as necessary, in securing such qualifications and awards. Similarly to help and encourage children wishing to take part in competitions and events—whether educationally based or not.
- To prepare regular reports on all children taught, both for internal or external use.
- Co-operate with other staff internally and from other agencies in promoting the interests of children at the School.
- Participate in curricular and extra-curricular activities as required within reasonable limits.
- To work with other staff to create a calm and welcoming atmosphere in the School to maintain a disciplined but flexible approach to meet the needs of children.
- To consider the health and safety of children and staff at all times. To carry out risk assessment as appropriate for activities. To be mindful of children’s welfare at all times. To record and report all matters considered dangerous, inappropriate or likely to cause children physical or mental harm.
- To participate in staff meetings and to work with colleagues in order to promote the best interests of the children.
- To carry out other such teaching or non-teaching duties as shall be considered reasonable in the circumstances including break and lunch duty, taking assemblies, covering for absent colleagues and attending concerts.
