Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEN)

Start: September

Location: London (W9)

Contract Type: team to prem, Part time, Full time

Remote working: On-site only

Pay rate: Pay to scale

The Role: Join a dedicated team at an SEN school Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)! As a higher-level teaching assistant, you will complement the professional work of teachers by taking on responsibilities for various learning activities under an agreed system of supervision, this role offers a fulfilling opportunity to contribute to students' and your own progress and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support students across various year groups in the absence of their regular class teachers
  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans and support students with their learning activities
  • Provide additional support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring inclusion and accessibility
  • Help manage classroom behaviour, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment
  • Provide targeted support to individuals or small groups of students, addressing their specific academic and emotional needs.
  • Liaise with teachers and other support staff to ensure continuity in students' learning
  • Assist with assessments and record keeping as required
  • Help organise and support extra-curricular activities and school events

The ideal candidate:

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), relevant degree (usually a bachelor’s in education or a subject related to the one you’ll teach)
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting (as a HLTA, Teaching Assistant, or Cover Supervisor)
  • Strong understanding of the primary or secondary school curriculum and child development
  • Experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A positive, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting students
  • Capability to work collaboratively with the SENCO and teachers to implement education plans
  • Knowledge of maintaining accurate records and reporting student progress
  • Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete)
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
