Job Title: Head of Specialist Education Unit (SEU)
Location: Ipswich, Suffolk
Salary: £51,027 - £56,316 Annually (FTE)
Contract Type: Full-time (Permanent)
Start Date: September 2025
About Our Client:
Our client, a highly regarded primary school in Ipswich, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head of Specialist Education Unit (SEU) to lead their provision for pupils with additional needs. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and skilled leader to drive the development of the SEU, ensuring that all pupils receive the highest quality education and support.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and management of the SEU, ensuring high-quality provision for pupils with additional needs.
- Develop and implement individualised learning plans, working closely with staff, parents, and external agencies.
- Lead and inspire a team of specialist educators and support staff, ensuring best practices in SEND education.
- Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, adapting strategies to meet the needs of each child.
- Promote a nurturing, inclusive, and aspirational learning environment for all pupils.
- Ensure compliance with SEND legislation and best practices in special education.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and mainstream teaching staff to ensure seamless inclusion and transition opportunities for pupils.
- Engage with parents and carers to provide guidance, support, and clear communication regarding pupil progress.
Requirements:
- A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- Experience in leading or coordinating SEND provision within a primary school setting.
- Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, EHCPs, and best practices in inclusive education.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to ensuring the best possible outcomes for pupils with additional needs.
- The ability to work effectively with multi-agency professionals, parents, and carers.
- A passion for fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.
