Job description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) to lead our MFL department. The successful candidate will be passionate about languages and dedicated to promoting excellence in language learning. As Head of MFL, you will play a key role in shaping the curriculum, inspiring students and staff, and driving forward the department's vision and goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the MFL department, including overseeing the teaching and learning of French, Spanish, and any other languages offered.
  • Develop and implement an engaging and challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all students and aligns with national standards and examination requirements.
  • Lead and support a team of MFL teachers, providing guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department, and implement strategies for improvement where necessary.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel motivated, supported, and inspired to succeed in their language studies.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to promote cross-curricular links and language learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
  • Keep abreast of developments in language education and share best practices with staff to ensure the department remains at the forefront of innovation and excellence.

Requirements:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) and a relevant degree in Modern Foreign Languages or a related field.
  • Significant experience teaching MFL at the secondary level, with a proven track record of raising achievement and leading successful initiatives.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues towards shared goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external partners.
  • A commitment to promoting languages and cultural awareness within the school community and beyond.
  • Familiarity with examination specifications and assessment processes for GCSE, A-level, or equivalent qualifications in MFL.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
