If you are a graduate or will be graduating at the end of the school year, are looking for a career or experience working within a secondary school environment in Thurrock then Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor positions are the perfect way to get your foot in the door.

Secondary schools in Thurrock are approaching me looking for graduates who specialise in Psychology, Sociology, Criminology or other similar degree's can fulfil the roles of Specialist Teaching Assistants as well as graduates who specialise in secondary school subjects (especially core subjects) to work within their schools as cover supervisors.

These roles would suit a confident graduate who has previous experience (in a voluntary capacity or otherwise) working with students, perhaps in a secondary school or youth work setting. To excel at these roles you will be a graduate who will be motivated and able to converse, liaise and engage with people of all ages including pupils aged 11 - 16, fellow colleagues and teachers.

Highlights of the Cover Supervisor and SEN Specialist roles:

  • Get paid for delivering pre-set work in a secondary school (Cover Supervisor)
  • Extremely rewarding positions helping challenging behaviour and SEN.
  • Pay range between to £275-£350 a week - PAYE (depending on experience)
  • Gain valuable experience working in a secondary school setting - to support a future PGCE application

The role of a SEN Support Assistant is to help 1:1 or small groups of students with different educational and emotional needs. The role requires someone who is patient, able to identify different needs and can adapt their approach depending on the pupil/pupils. You may be at various schools throughout the Essex area but the additional experience you will gain is invaluable.

The role of a cover supervisor is to deliver pre-set work in the absence of the classroom teacher. The role commands a certain level of flexibility as you may be delivering and supervising classes varying in size, ability and age. You may also be at various schools in the Thurrock area so the networking opportunities are not only endless but the experience you will gain is perfect for an inspirational teacher. The successful cover supervisor will be covering a range of subjects to gain a full 360 degree, well rounded experience.
